$w=-P\Delta V$
and
$w=-\int_{V_{1}}^{V_{2}}PdV=-nRTln\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}$

### Re: units

"w" represents work: the energy that exits or enters a system. Because it is referring to energy, work is measured in Joules (J).

### Re: units

w as work is presented in Joules or can be kJ if the problem specifies it. W as degeneracy though does not have units because it is just the number of microstates possible.

### Re: units

Work (w) is in joules. The "w" used for calculating entropy is number of states.

### Re: units

w is usually given as joules (J) or kilojoules (kJ). However, depending on the problem, you may need to convert from pressure/volume units such as Pa $m^{3}$ and L atm.

### Re: units

Also remember that degeneracy, Capital W, has no units. So for the equation $\Delta S=k_{b}*ln(W)$, the units of boltzmann constant is the same as entropy

### Re: units

w is given in joules. Some problems may represent it as kJ so it is important to pay attention.
