$w=-P\Delta V$
and
$w=-\int_{V_{1}}^{V_{2}}PdV=-nRTln\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}$

### Kelvin vs Celsius

How do I know when to convert to kelvin/celsius when solving problems? Is it safe to always use kelvin?

### Re: Kelvin vs Celsius

Usually for thermodynamics problems Kelvin is used, but for many equations it doesn't really matter because the difference in one degree of Kelvin is the same as that of Celsius.

It would depends on the problems, one of the best thing to do is check the units of a given constant in that problem.

It should be safe to always use Kelvin, since it is always the unit used in formulas. The temperature is sometimes given in Celsius, so you have to convert it, which is just adding 273.15

You always use Kelvin no matter what equation it is so if you are given celsius convert to kelvin

if it just delta T then change in celsius will be the same as change in kelvin. you can try it out.
But if for instance, you're using the ideal gas law PV = nRT then you have to use Kelvin.
