Integrals and Thermodynamic Equations

Postby Ashley Ryder 1B » Sun Feb 05, 2023 9:57 pm

When we were introduced to this material in class, there were equations with integrals. Are we supposed to know how to solve these and derive the equations, or was that just so we know how they are created? Also, what are the important equations that we are supposed to use to solve the thermodynamic problems?

I think the integrals were more to help conceptualize what we are doing since not every value will have a constant slop on a graph. Knowing the derivation may help, but the equation can just be memorized. It is important to know the equation for work, the equation for internal energy change, the ideal gas equation, and the relationship between heat and change in enthalpy. Hope this helps!
