Txtbk Question 4B.5

Postby Mia_Renna_1L » Sun Feb 05, 2023 11:17 pm

Can someone go over how to do the first part of this question? Can we use PV=nRT? I'm confused on the conversions.

Since the change in internal energy is equal to heat + work (delta U = q + w), and we are given energy gained by beat (5.5 kJ), we need to calculate work. I used the equation w = -Pex*delta V. I had to convert the change in volume from mL to L and the external pressure from torr to atm. Once I put this into the equation for work, I converted L*atm to J then kJ, and added this w to q to find delta U.
