Diatomic Elements

Postby Patience-2L » Sat Oct 28, 2023 2:48 pm

Hello,

I have a technicality question when it comes to solving for limiting reactions. When a questions says oxygen or fluorine is reacting with something do we assume that it is O2 or F2 when writing the chemical equation because there are diatomic?

Thank you

Generally, unless the question says otherwise, I would assume O2 and F2. Most of the questions I've done related to O assumed that it was O2.

I agree and I would add that O2 is usually referred to as "oxygen gas" while O is "elemental oxygen."
