Theoretical yield

When calculating the theoretical yield of a chemical reaction, do we have to look at the entire equation or just focus on the limiting reactant? Thanks!

For theoretical yield, you would still look at the limiting reactant. However, it is theoretical because there are extraneous factors such as some of the reactant getting stuck in the test tube that would hinder the yield.

Hi! To find the theoretical yield, you would first find the limiting reactant in the reactants and find the amount of product it would produce. Then you multiply the moles of product by the molar mass of the product to find the mass in grams of the product.

When calculating the theoretical yield of a chemical reaction, you should focus on the limiting reactant. The limiting reactant is the reactant that is completely consumed in the reaction, determining the maximum amount of product that can be formed. The theoretical yield is the maximum amount of product that could be obtained under ideal conditions, assuming complete reaction of the limiting reactant and no side reactions. It is determined by the stoichiometry of the balanced chemical equation and the amount of the limiting reactant available.
