After you balance the equation and find the limiting reactant, what is the next step?

Let's assume you have the generic equation A + B --> C

1. Convert the grams of reactant A to moles of reactant A. Convert the grams of reactant B to moles of reactant B.

2. Perform a mole to mole ratio (using the coefficients of the balanced equation) to convert the moles of A to moles of C and the moles of B to moles of C.

3. Convert both moles of C to grams of C.

4. Trace back the smaller number of grams of C to see if it originated from the grams of A or grams of B. Whichever it is, that is the limiting reactant.
