Does the actual yield refer to the amount of reactants remaining after a reaction is completed?

The actual yield refers to the amount of product that is produced from a chemical reaction after taking the limiting reactant in an equation into account. This differs from the theoretical yield, which would be the amount of product produced assuming no limitations.

The actual yield is the amount that is produced within a lab setting. The theoretical yield is the amount produced assuming there are no errors, outside reactions etc. The actual yield will typically be given to you in a problem where you must find the percent yield. Here you would divide the actual yield by the theoretical yield(found with LR) and multiply by one hundred.

Since we don't have a lab in this class the actual yield will have to be given to us. As of right now we'll mostly need it to calculate the percentage yeild (actual/theoretical- which we have to solve for!-*100%). The actual yield is what is produced by running an experiment.

Actual yield will always be less than theoretical yield due to side reactions, impurities, etc.
Percent yield = (Actual yield/theoretical yield) x100
