So for this question, it gives us two different reactions where the second one uses the reactants of the product from the first one.
When you balance the first one, the products are 2 moles of Fe3O4. and 1 mol of CO2. But for the second reaction, my TA put only Fe3O4 and CO2 and balanced it from there. Why don't we start off with 2 moles. of. Fe3O4 when that was the amount of the product from the first reaction?

Balance the first equation:
3 Fe2O3 + CO --------> 2 Fe3O4 + CO2
Balance the second equation:
Fe3O4 + 4CO -------> 3 Fe + 4 CO2

We don't bring the moles of Fe3O4 and CO2 in the second equation because they are reactants not products in the second equation and the second question is now a completely separate equation from the first equation, you are not using the moles from the first equation because of the fact that the moles of Fe3O4 and CO2 brought from the first equation to the second equation might not be able to balance the products of the second equation (Fe and CO2).
