Percent Yield
When calculating the percent yield, does the actual and theoretical yield have to be in grams or moles? Or can it be either?
Re: Percent Yield
I believe you want both to be in grams, kg, etc., you'll want to find and match the theoretical in whatever unit the problem gives you for the actual yield.

Re: Percent Yield
Usually a question will ask you for the yield in grams. In any case, both theoretical and actual yields must be in the same units then multiplied by 100 for the correct percent yield.

Re: Percent Yield
If the actual yield is given in grams do we change it to moles or do we change the theoretical yield to grams if its in moles?

The formula for percent yield uses both actual and theoretical yields in grams, so I would suggest always making sure both are in grams! Unless the problem asks for the actual or theoretical yield in moles, which it probably won't, just convert it over to grams and you are good to plug it into the percent yield formula! Hope that helps!

Re: Percent Yield
My TA mentioned that you could do moles/moles when calculating the percent yield, so I think it can be either; however, we usually use grams/grams.
