Some practice probs (not from HW) to study for the test!

Postby Julia Mazzucato 4D » Sat Oct 05, 2019 10:48 am

Hi guys, I wanted to create a thread for some good practice problems from the TB (not part of the HW questions) to study for the test in week 2. Feel free to share any good practice probs you find so we can all study together!

Limiting Reagent Calculation Problems

M.2) The metal vanadium can be extracted from its oxide by heating it in the presence of calcium:
V2O5 + 5Ca > 2V + 5CaO
When 150.0 kg V2O5 is heated with calcium, 36.7 kg of vanadium is produced. What is the percent yield of vanadium?

M.6) The reaction 3N2H4 + 4ClF3 > 12HF + 3N2 + 2Cl2 is carried out with 12 mol N2H4 and 12 mol ClF3.
Identify excess reactant.
Estimate how many moles of each product is produced + how many moles of excess reactant remain.

M.8) Aluminum chloride is made by reacting with solid aluminum oxide, solid carbon, and chlorine gas. Carbon monoxide gas is also produced in the reaction.
Write a balanced equation for the reaction.
What mass of Aluminum chloride can be produced when 185 kg aluminum oxide is heated with 25 kg carbon and 100. kg chlorine?

Good luck everyone!!

My answers

2) 43.67% yield
6) 3 moles of N2H4 will not react, you will get approx 36 moles HF, 9 moles N2, and 6 moles Cl2
8) Al2O3 + 3C + 3Cl2 > 2AlCl3 + 3CO, 125 kg of AlCl3 produced
