Reducing reactants

In self test M1.b, the question says "Reduction of 15 kg of iron(III) oxide in a blast furnace produced 8.8 kg of iron in the reaction
Fe2O3 (s) + 3CO(g)→ 2 Fe (s) + 3 CO 2 (g). What is the percentage yield of iron?" If the question were to not include the balanced equation how would we go about finding out the reactants and products if a reactant was reduced?

I have always wondered the same thing. I have a hard time producing the correct balanced equation on my own when it is not given in the problem. In this case, I would think that the balanced reaction would have to be given or else we would not know that CO2 was one of the reactants. So I don't think you would have to worry about that for this problem.

Lavelle says that we are doing reduction reactions later in the quarter, so don't worry about it now because you won't find this problem on the test.
