Finding Limiting Reactant

What is a limiting reactant and how do you find/calculate it?

The limiting reactant of a chemical reaction is the reactant that is completely consumed to make the product (some amount of the other reactants will be leftover, or in excess).

Say you have two given amounts of reactant that undergo a chemical reaction to make products.
Using the balanced chemical reaction, you convert EACH amount of reactant to the amount of one product to see how much product can be made from each reactant assuming the other reactant is in excess supply. You must convert both reactants to the same product.
Whichever reactant is converted to the LEAST amount of product is the limiting reactant.

A limiting reactant is the reactant that gets consumed first in the reaction. In order to find it, you must convert each reactant into the number of moles and compare based on the mole ratios. Whichever reactant has the least number of moles is the limiting reactant

Limiting Reactant is the substance that is completely used up in a chemical reaction. Limiting reactant determines how much product is produced in a chemical reaction.
Identifying Limiting Reactant:
1. Identify reactant and products
2. write a balanced equation for the reaction
3. Calculate molar mass of each reactant and product
4. convert know masses of reactant and product of moles
5. Calculate the mole ratio
6. Compare calculated moles to required moles
7. if the substance's calculated moles is less than the required moles, then the substance is the limiting reactant
