Limiting Reactant Problems

Postby Lauren Lewis3L » Sun Oct 13, 2019 9:19 pm

Is it possible for there to be a question where they ask you to find the other reactant or the amount of it from the product and one of the reactants? If so how would you proceed to work through a problem similar to that?

yes. if given the amount of product you can work backwards and determine the amount of each reactant. all you need is the amount of one substance and the balanced chemical equation.

It is possible that you can be given the amount of a product and asked to find the amount of each of the reactants needed to make that much product. If you're given the product in grams you can convert them to moles and use the molar ratio between that given product and the reactant they're asking you to find to get the amount of moles for the reactant. Then with the moles of the reactant needed to create that product's moles, you can convert those moles back to grams and there you have the grams of the reactant needed for the chemical equation to create the desired product.
