Theoretical yield

Postby annemarielawrence » Thu Dec 02, 2021 5:01 pm

Does the theoretical yield have to do with the limiting reactant or the excess reactant?

Hi! Yes, the theoretical yield is the calculated yield of product that you can get from a given reaction, and this amount is calculated based on the limiting reactant of the reaction.

The theoretical yield is given based on the limiting reactant.

Hello Anne,

The theoretical yield has to do with the limiting reactant because the theoretical yield is calculated by the estimated yield of a product which is achieved through the limiting reactant.

the theoretical yield is the product based off of the limiting reactant

Hi! The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reactant because the limiting reactant affects the amount of product that can be produced from the reaction.

The theoretical yield relates to the limiting reactant, as that is what determines how much product there is in a reaction (since it runs out first).

Hi! The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reactant as the limiting reactant is what gives us the yield/maximum amount of a compound that we can create. Hope that this helps!

Also, the theoretical yield is the best-case scenario. There are usually other factors that contribute to the actual yield being lower.

Theoretical yield is based on limiting reactant! This is because the limiting reactant determines how much of the product we can produce hence why we determine the theoretical yield using it based on our equation

You only need to focus on the limiting reactant so when given a reaction all you should do is find the limiting reactant and find the yield based off of that.

Theoretical yield based on the limiting reactant but its the predicted amount of yield from the reaction without any side reactions.

Theoretical yield is the amount in grams of the limiting reactant
