Vacuum Scenario

Postby Janelle Lau 3K » Sun Jan 31, 2016 6:35 pm

If a closed container was placed inside a vacuum piston, and its volume changes, would we use w=-PV? In that case, since its external pressure is equal to 0 atm, would that make work=0?

Yes. Since the external pressure is zero, this is free expansion (nothing to expand against) and the work done is also equal to zero.
