how to use q

Postby raina_bandekar_1G » Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:37 pm

When do you use q=mcpΔT vs. just q=cpΔT? Are there any specific scenarios that are dead give aways of when to use one or the other?

Hi there,

I think you only utilize q=mcdeltaT when the mass is provided. Are you referencing Cp when you say q=cpdeltaT? Because if that is the case, then it is for a calorimeter, mass is not necessary.

For the first equation, you use it when there's specific heat given, and for the second equation, you use it when the problem mentions a calorimeter or heat being released. I hope this helps!
