A molecule that is more complex and perhaps has more resonance has more available positions that can hold energy. So this internal change in energy can be more positive before a temperature change occurs because they can absorb more heat.

The linearity of a molecule dictates the orientations at which the reaction can occur, which effects heat and internal energy.
