Enthalpy-Entropy Compensation Phenomenon
Hey everyone! Could someone elaborate on the role of enthalpy-entropy compensation phenomenon in reaction mechanisms and kinetics? I'm not too strong on this. Thanks!
Re: Enthalpy-Entropy Compensation Phenomenon
Entropy refers to disorder, and enthalpy refers to heat absorption by the atmosphere. Entropy is inversely proportional to temperature, and enthalpy is directly affected by temperature.
Re: Enthalpy-Entropy Compensation Phenomenon
Variations in enthalpy and entropy are often interrelated in such a way that changes in one property can be compensated or balanced by changes in the other property, leading to a consistent Gibbs free energy change.
The enthalpy-entropy compensation phenomenon can influence reaction kinetics by affecting the activation energy (Ea) of reactions.
