How does having additional vibrational modes increase a molecule's molar heat capacity?

The more "degrees of freedom" a molecule has (translational, rotational, vibrational, etc.) the more ways it can store energy. Heat q and work w are the two contributions to a molecule's internal energy U that we will be considering in this course. Thus, the molecule with more vibrational modes has a higher heat capacity (units of J/mol-K), that is, ability to store thermal energy (heat) per Kelvin per mol of molecules.
