What does it mean if an equation is isothermal? Is the deltaU definitely going to be 0 or is that only under certain conditions?

Isothermal equations means that the system does not lose or gain heat. Think of it being in an isolated container

To agree with the statement above, isothermal is no exchange of heat or energy. Therefore, the temperature stays constant and Delta T should equal zero.

delta U would equal 0 because deltaU = (3/2)nR(deltaT), and since deltaT=0, deltaU is therefore also equal to zero.

Also, since delta U is zero then we also know that q=-w.

If an equation is isothermal, that means there is no heat transfer and therefore no change in temperature.
