Postby Emily Glaser 1F » Thu Feb 01, 2018 11:35 pm

does polarity of a molecule have anything to do with bond enthalpy?

I'm not sure Lavelle has covered this in lecture, but I would say that polarity has nothing to do bond enthalpies.

I think that bond enthalpies can be considered constants that aren't affected by outside sources like polarity

I agree! If polarity does play any roles in determining bond enthalpy, I'm pretty sure it's a negligible effect.

I think generally, there is a positive correlation between polarity and bond enthalpy but the there can be exceptions.
