Using Kelvin

Postby Samantha Joseph 1F » Wed Feb 14, 2018 1:06 pm

Just to clarify, we're allowed to use the rounded conversion of 273 Kelvin on the midterm right? We don't have to do 273.15 K?

The formula sheet online uses 273.15 so I would stick with that.

It's generally better to use more sig figs in your constants so your final answer is more accurate, but if the number of sig figs are low (<3) for any other value that you plug into the problem, then you'll be fine as well since your final answer won't have a lot of sig figs anyways.

I would say to always stick to what you are given on the tests, that way there is no discrepancy/controversy to your final answer. Also during intermediate solving use the exact values you are getting and only round until the final answer using the minimum number of sig figs given in the initial problem.
