q and delta H

Postby Labiba Sardar 2A » Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:54 pm

What's the difference between q and delta H? To elaborate, how do you know if a problem is talking about q vs a problem talking about delta H?

q is the amount of heat transferred to a system whereas is used to describe the change in enthalpy. Enthalpy is the total potential energy of a system, which is associated with the heat transferred to/from a system (q). However, at constant pressure which can make it difficult to see the difference between what the two values are. Hope this helped a bit!
