delta U=nCvdeltaT
For sapling week 3/4 # 18 it says we should use the equation deltaU= nCvDeltaT. Is this on our equation sheet somewhere, because I can't seem to find it or is it just like a combo of other equations. Please explain where this is coming from! Thank you!! :)

This is not on our equation sheet but it can be deduced. This formula works in constant volume conditions because normally deltaU = q + w. In constant volume, w=0, so deltaU = q. q=nCvdeltaT, therefore deltaU = nCvdeltaT.

We use this equation because, at constant volume, the change in internal energy is equal to the q_v or the heat at a constant volume. Because q=c(delta T), we just use C_v,m as the heat capacity value.

When volume is constant no expansion/compression work is done, remember w= -PdeltaV or w=- deltanRT or for reversible pathways w=-nRTln(v2/V1). So when deltaV=0, w=0 and deltaU= q because deltaU = q+w. And we calculate using q=nCvdeltaT and so delta=nCvdeltaT
