ΔU

Postby Rayna Irving 2C » Sun Mar 14, 2021 12:26 am

Under what circumstances does ΔU = 0?

Delta U is zero in an isolated system because neither energy nor matter can be exchanged with the surroundings.

deltaU is 0 in an isothermal reversible expansion since the energy lost through work is replaced by heat from the surroundings, meaning q = -w.

In an isothermal reaction, delta U will be 0. You can also calculate q and w since delta U = q+w

In an isothermal reaction (when temperature is constant).

It will be equal to zero in isothermal reactions where q=-w or w=-q.

ΔU = 0 in isothermal reactions and q= -w or -q= w since energy lost from work is replenished by heat.
