Phase Changes

At phase changes, is the value of w not changing?

My understanding is that during phase changes, only heat (q) is involved, no work is done for the substance to change phase so that's why w=0. For example, all you need to do to melt a solid to a liquid is to heat it up (positive q), you don't have to change pressure or volume to make that happen (hence no work).
