Converting between specific heat

Postby Emily_Haywood_1K » Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:52 pm

I'm a little confused as to how we can derive the Cv value from the Cp value and vice versa. Can someone explain?

Please read textbook chapter 4C.2. The short answer is Cp = Cv + nR
The quantities are different because at constant pressure some thermal energy goes into raising the temperature and some goes into expanding the gas, so it takes more heat to accomplish the same temperature change.
