Achieve Week 3 and 4 question 9

Postby ElizabethTopalian 2K » Sat Feb 04, 2023 10:44 pm

I am having trouble solving this problem
If you combine 440.0 mL of water at 25.00 ∘C and 130.0 mL of water at 95.00 ∘C,what is the final temperature of the mixture? Use 1.00 g/mL as the density of water.

For this question, you want to label one entity of water as the system and the other as the surrounding. Recognize that the final temperature for both waters is going to be the same and that qsys = -qsurr.

Hope that helps!

For this question, you would set the energy gained by the colder water equal to the energy lost by the warmer water and solve for Tfinal. This would look like: m(specific heat of water)(T-25)=-m(specific heat of water)(T-95). Then solve for temperature.
