Sign Conventions for Fusion?

Postby Mariyam Oladele 1E » Sat Mar 16, 2024 4:49 pm

On question 4F.13 in the textbook we are asked to calculate the change in entropy for one mol of water that is frozen at 1 atm. The solution was negative due to the use of -6.01 as the enthalpy of fusion of ice and I'm a bit confused on why that is.

Nevermind, I made a mistake and forgot that if you're going from a liquid to a solid then the change in enthalpy is negative.
