Equilibrium Constant and Direction

Postby 205873468 » Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:42 pm

How does the second law influence chemical equilibrium and how can we use it to predict the direction of spontaneous reactions and equilibrium constants?

The second law of thermodynamics influences chemical equilibrium by governing the direction in which a reaction proceeds based on changes in entropy and enthalpy. Using the Gibbs free energy equation, we can predict the direction of spontaneous reactions and calculate equilibrium constants, which describe the extent of a reaction at equilibrium.
