### Collisions of Particles

In the textbook, they described a transfer of energy from a particle of higher energy to one of lower energy upon collision when they are in an isolated container. Is this an example that can connect to thermal energy in that one substance of warmer temperature(i.e-coffee, water, etc) exchanges energy with its colder surrounding (i.e-room temperature)?

Yes, particles with high thermal energy transfer thermal energy in the same way as high energy particles. They transfer thermal energy by crashing into particles of lower thermal energy, and the energy moves from higher to lower concentration.
An example would be the high thermal energy of coffee that burns your tongue.
