### Gibbs Free Energy and Entropy

Are compounds more stable when their Gibbs Free energy is a negative number? Why? How does spontaneity bring about stability?

So a reaction with a negative deltaG is spontaneous because energy is released into the surroundings. Essentially it takes less energy to break down the reactants than it does to form the products. Spontaneous reactions are more stable because they have a lower entropy

Yeah exactly, basically because the reaction is spontaneous, delta H will also tend to be negative and delta s will be positive so the reaction will be more stable as it moves from an unstable state to a stable state.
