### Degeneracy

I'm having trouble with conceptually understanding what degeneracy is

### Re: Degeneracy

Hi, Ryan,
Degeneracy means that you have the same energy. For example, degenerate orbitals means that two orbitals have the exact same energy.
Two microstates are degenerate if they are of equal energy as well.

### Re: Degeneracy

How does the number of available positions relate to energy?

### Re: Degeneracy

Degeneracy is the number of ways of achieving a given energy state. Also, entropy increases dramatically depending on the number of systems.

### Re: Degeneracy

Does degeneracy have any relation to the spontaneity of a reaction?
