reversible and irreversible with entropy

Postby Clement Ng » Fri Feb 02, 2018 1:22 pm

deltaS= q(rev)/T. Will we ever use q(irrev)to calculate deltaS and if so when?

I believe we only use it for reversible reactions, but someone correct me if I’m wrong

No you won't ever use q(irrev) to calculate the deltaS, but you can use the fact that entropy is a state function to find the amount of energy needed for an irreversible reaction.
