Q:What is the residual molar entropy of SO2F2?
I drew out the 6 different lewis structures for the SO2F2. The formula used is S=klnW. In the solutions manual, it says S=kln6^6.02x10^-23. Why is 6 raised to avogadro's number?

There are 6 different orientations for SO2F2, so W = 6^N, where N is Avogadro's number. 6 is raised to Avogadro's number to account for 1 mole of the substance, rather than just 1 molecule.

The 6 is raised to avogadro's number because the question is asking for the molar entropy, so that's the entropy per mole of SO2F2.

There are 6 different states the molecule can exist in (you can switch the Os and the Fs around the S atom 6 different ways).

In order to find W, I think it would help drawing out different Lewis structures to identify the various ways the molecule can exist.
