What exactly is degeneracy and how does it differ from entropy??

Degeneracy and entropy are directly related concepts by the Boltzmann equation S=kBlnW. As degeneracy (W) increase, so will entropy. Degeneracy is just a more solid and concrete value, because it is the number of possible states that some particle can be in. Entropy is just a manipulation of this number through the Boltzmann equation.

Degeneracy is more about the number of different arrangements for the particles, whereas entropy is the chaos which is largely dependent on degeneracy.
