Entropy

How do you determine if a reaction is spontaneous or not when you're given the deltaS of the system and deltaS of the surroundings?

You cannot determine spontaneity from just Delta S alone. However, an increase in overall entropy (system and surroundings combined) usually means the system is thermodynamically favorable.
