Boltzmann equation

Postby Jeremiah Betito 3A » Tue Feb 13, 2024 10:38 pm

Can someone elaborate on boltzmann equation? In my notes, I jotted that its the relationship btwn W and entropy and the equation S = kBlnW. What would be an example of a scenario that would use boltzmann equation and is there anything I need to know on when to use it?

You can use the equation to study the behavior of the thermodynamic system when it's NOT at equilibrium.
W is the degeneracy (different ways a particle can take up space/micro states while keeping the same energy). An increase in W correlates with higher entropy.
