Adiabatic System

In homework question 8.15, it says the in an adiabatic system q<0 is never true. Why is this?

Hi there! An adiabatic system has no heat flow (its insulated). Therefore, q will always equal zero. q will never be negative, because no heat can be lost from the system, nor will it be positive, because heat cannot be added to the system. q is always zero for an adiabatic system.
