For these types of questions, will you always have to figure out the number of different possible orientations of the molecule by drawing it out?

No, I really doubt you will need to draw out the orientations as long as you can know the number there really are. Drawing them is just helpful but like if you had some molecule in which there were many many possible orientations it could get pretty annoying. So only do it if it helps you or if the problem asks you to show the orientations

For simple ones, you don't really have to draw them out because you can just imagine them. However, when it gets more complex drawing them out will help you see all the possible orientations. I can't think of any other way to count the orientations without thinking visually or drawing them. If anyone else knows another way that would be great!
