can someone please explain in simple terms and give examples of how to find w for boltzmann equation

W is the number of microstates that a particular atom or molecule can take. A good way to find the value for W is to consider the form:
(number of states)^(number of particles).
This means that the base refers to the orientation of the particular atom/molecule.

You may need to make the exponent Avogadro's number when there is 1 mole of particles involved--changing the exponent to n * Avogadro's number if there are n moles involved. However, I don't think it will be necessary on the midterm. (I hope)

W= (# of possible orientations)^ (# of molecules). For example if you have 3 molecules and each molecule could be arranged in 10 ways then W= 10^3. You might have to use Avogadro's number like explained above.
