### Finding W (degeneracy)

When calculating for W when there is 1 mol of a substance does this mean that you have to raise the number of microstates available to the power of Avogadro's number?

i believe so yes. its the same as if you would convert the number of moles by multiplying by avo first

### Re: Finding W (degeneracy)

If you are given mols of a substance, Avogadro's number (NA) will appear in the the raised power, times the number of amount of identical molecules/particles.
For example, when calculating the residual entropy of 1 mol of C6H5Br, w = 6 ^ 1*NA, therefore S = Kb*ln (6^1NA) = NA*Kb*ln6.

W = # of possible energy states ^ # of molecules

Yes, you raise it to the number of Avogadro's constant if they ask you to use one mole of a substance.
