### Degeneracy

Can someone explain this concept to me please? Like why and when are we using it? I know it has something to do with the probabilities of how the atoms can arrange but other than that, I don't get all the calculation and its meaning

### Re: Degeneracy

Degeneracy is a measure of the number of ways molecules or compounds can be arranged in the same total energy. This is is related to the idea of entropy because it takes into account the number of microstates possible, which all contribute to the disorderliness or randomness of a system(spontaneity). To calculate W, the formula p, the number of possible states^number of molecules, is used.
