Error in Boltzmann Equation

Postby Ellen Amico 2L » Sat Feb 08, 2020 4:00 pm

I was looking at my lecture notes and in class we discussed that the Boltzmann equation has a small error for S but a large error for w. What does this mean exactly?

Since S= kb lnW, what appears to be a small error in S will be a much larger error in W (taking the ln of a value greatly lowers the value)

Does this mean that making a large error in W, will make a small error in S? How do they correlate with each other?

This means that an error in W will have a small effect on S, helping S be a more accurate measurement of entropy

What is the significance of having error in either the W or the S?
