Degeneracy
Is the only time that we will use the equation S=Kb*ln(W) be when we are given degeneracy? Or will it be used other times as well?

Re: Degeneracy
I believe that this equation, as well as the one used to calculate degeneracy when given # of molecules and # of microstates, would be the main ways in which we might be expected to apply this concept.

Re: Degeneracy
We would use this equation when we are given the degeneracy, but Lavelle might make us calculate W first. Remember that W=(# of positions the molecules could be at)^(# of atoms or molecules).

Re: Degeneracy
This equation will probably be the only way that he asked us to calculate degeneracy. Also the amount of micro states will be given and from that we calculate W
