What does the boltmann equation account for? Is it related to resonance structure?

If you are referring to S = kB*ln(W), it is used to calculate residual entropy.

It is used to calculate entropy if you know the number of ways particles can be arranged while still having the same energy (residual entropy).

The Boltzmann equation calculates residual entropy, or in other words, the entropy of molecules purely based on their position/arrangement since we are assuming that the temperature is 0 K.

The Boltzmann equation is used to represent the relationship between degeneracy, w, and entropy. Degeneracy is the number of ways of achieving a given energy state. The Boltzmann equation also includes the Boltzmann constant which is 1.381*10^-23 J*K^-1.

You use it to find residual energy. Its useful if you have the number of particles and the amount of states it can be in

Can we calculate degeneracy? If so how?

Degeneracy is the number of ways of achieving a given energy state and is represented by W. The equation for total degeneracy is Wtotal= W1 x W2.

This equation is a way of calculating the entropy of a system of molecules entirely based on their position and the number of ways they can be arranged
