Re: w
I think this is because we want to find one mole's worth, which is avagodros number in terms of atoms or molecules.

Re: w
You need to multiply N by Avogadro's number to calculate the degeneracy of N moles of a certain substance, but not to calculate that of N particles.

Re: w
No, you don't need Avogadro's number to find degeneracy. You will only use Avogadro's number for degeneracy if you are finding the degeneracy of a mole of molecules.

Re: w
You don't necessarily need to use Avogadro's constant to find degeneracy but if a question requires you to know the degeneracy of a mole of a substance, Avogadro's constant is needed for the value of the "number of particles" within the states.

Re: w
You would only need to apply Avogadro's number if the question asks you to find the degeneracy of a mole of the given substance.

We do need to use Avogadro's number if we want to find the degeneracy of N moles of a certain substance. However, if you are simply calculating the degeneracy of a certain number of particles, you do not use Avogadro's number.

Well said here! Just like with the first law of thermodynamics, we need to consider context/all factores, here whether we are looking for degeneracy per mole or just amongst particles-- if you need to figure it out per mole, you'll need Avogadro's number.

Re: w
You would only need Avogadro's number if you were to find the degeneracy of a specific number of moles of a molecule, much like how you would only use Avogadro's number to find the mass of only one atom of an element when given the molar mass.
