For this problem how would you find the moles of nitrogen gas? I tried doing the 22.4L/mole conversion but when I did, my answer was way off. The specific heat I calculated was 29.101 since its a linear molecule at a constant pressure which is (7/2)R.

I believe the solutions manual says that you just assume 1 mole of nitrogen gas (it's not mentioned anywhere in the problem).

I can confirm that you get the correct answer from using 1 mol of gas. There are also a few other problems in the homework with this assumption.

I thought it was odd that you are expected to assume one mole. It seems like something that you can't assume; you need to be given it? But it this a safe assumption for future problems?
