Calculating Delta S with a change in temperature

Postby Tinisha 1G » Wed Feb 13, 2019 12:39 pm

If the problem does not specify, do you use C(@constant pressure) or C(@constant volume) when calculating delta S with a temperature change?

Usually it is constant pressure, unless it's a two step question where you are changing volume and temperature. In the second case, you do constant volume because you do not want it to change again.

Also take into account the shape of the molecule because whether it is monatomic, linear, or non-linear changes the C value in both constant pressure and volume.

Check the reaction to see if more molecules are produced on the product side vs reactant side. Then check if it's in a container or not. Assuming Cp is usually safer.

You can change the variables to include temperature its just that temperature is inverse.

It is usually Cp unless the volume is changing
